SPOOKY BOX / SPIRIT BOX APP IN SPANISH

A SPIRIT BOX APP
IN SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE.

Yes: Spooky Box speaks and shows its words in Spanish and Portuguese as well as English. Each language has its own bank of words, written for its own speakers, and the voice that reads them is one installed on your phone.

What is in each language

Spooky Box has three word banks. The English bank holds more than 3,500 words and short phrases. The Spanish bank holds 1,869 entries and the Portuguese bank 1,751. Each was written from scratch for its own speakers, with the names, places, objects, actions and feelings that belong to that language, rather than an English list run through a translator.

The voice follows the language. Choose Spanish and the words appear on the screen in Spanish and are read aloud by a Spanish voice; choose Portuguese and the same happens in Portuguese. Under every word, whatever the language, the app shows the reason it came up: a magnetic shift measured in microtesla, a pressure shift, a temperature or humidity shift on phones with those sensors, or Spontaneous when no reading stood out.

What does not change with the language is how a word is chosen. The phone's sensors decide the moment: the first five seconds of a session learn the room, and a bigger shift away from its normal readings makes the next word likely to come sooner. The word itself is drawn at random from the bank. It is not picked for its meaning, in Spanish or Portuguese any more than in English, and built-in words do not repeat within a session. Spooky Box is made for entertainment in the spirit box tradition, and there is no radio in it.

How to switch, and how to set up the voice

Switching takes a moment:

The voice is not inside the app. Spooky Box speaks through your phone's own speech engine, using a voice already installed on the phone, at the pitch and speed you set. So a Spanish session needs a Spanish voice on the phone, and a Portuguese session needs a Portuguese one. If your phone does not have one, a voice is added in the phone's own text-to-speech settings rather than in Spooky Box, and downloading it may need a connection.

If no voice for the chosen language is installed, Spooky Box shows a notice and reads the words with another voice rather than going silent. The words on the screen are still in the language you chose; they are only being read by a voice meant for another one until you add the right voice.

For sessions without a connection, use an installed offline voice; the speech provider you pick may have its own network requirements. Sessions, recordings, photos and clips stay on your phone until you share them.

What stays in English, and what stays the same

The app's own menus are in English for now. The words you hear and see are Spanish or Portuguese, while the screens around them read in English.

The website is different. This page is in English, but Spooky Box is described en español and em português, each with the same session preview and the same questions answered in that language.

Everything else in the app works the same whichever language you choose. When you tap Start session, pick Nothing, Audio, or Audio and video. With Audio, the microphone keeps the whole session on your phone, and afterwards you can tap any word in the log to hear the room from just before it came up. Tap Mark during a session to stamp a moment worth going back to. Choose Audio and video and the whole session is filmed, with sound, for up to 20 minutes, with the current word, its reason, the clock and the magnetic reading drawn into the picture, so a Spanish or Portuguese word is drawn in exactly as it was spoken.

Hands-off mode is the same too: readings taken while the phone is handled are thrown out, and every session is saved in the archive with each word, its time and its reason.

Sessions are unlimited and cost nothing in every language, and so are recording, filming and the archive, where your five most recent sessions open without the unlock. One optional one-time unlock through Google Play adds the same five things whichever language you use: every archived session opens, custom words and names typed or imported from a text file, a setting for how often they appear, two voice effects called Dead Channel and Wraith, and export of the audio or video of a session. There is no subscription, no account and no ads.

Try it

Spooky Box is on Google Play for Android phones running Android 8.0 or later. Set the language once, start a session, and the words come in Spanish or Portuguese from then on. If a voice for that language is missing, the notice on the screen will tell you.

Questions

Is there a spirit box app in Spanish?

Yes. Spooky Box speaks and shows its words in Spanish from a bank of 1,869 entries written for Spanish speakers, not translated from English. Choose Spanish under Settings, then Words, then Language, and the bank and the voice change from your next session. The app's menus are in English for now.

Does Spooky Box work as a ghost box app in Portuguese?

It does. The Portuguese bank holds 1,751 entries written from scratch for Portuguese speakers, and the words are read aloud by a Portuguese voice installed on your phone. The sensors, the recording, the replay and the archive work exactly as they do in English.

What if my phone has no Spanish or Portuguese voice?

Spooky Box speaks through the voices installed on your phone, so it needs one for the language you chose. If none is installed, the app shows a notice and reads the words with another voice. Add a voice for that language in your phone's own text-to-speech settings, then start a new session.

Spooky Box is paranormal entertainment. It uses device sensor activity and a word engine to create atmospheric sessions. Generated words and sensor readings do not establish the presence of spirits or verified communication.
